Feeling discomfort or pain in your feet, legs or lower back? This may be related to your walking pattern and movement. Biomechanics studies your walking pattern (gait) and how your feet function in relation to your legs, with the aim of correcting alignment.
Biomechanics studies the bones, muscles, and joints of your hips, legs and feet, in relation to the way you walk and move.
It is an important area of study and part of Podiatry, as foot, leg, and lower back pain can cause an immense strain on your life. The cause is often unique to your genetics, medical history, footwear and daily activities.
Biomechanical Assessment & Diagnosis
A biomechanical evaluation is an assessment of your walking cycle (gait), and how your feet function in relation to your legs, both when standing and during movement.
I will first conduct a biomechanical evaluation, to assess your current walking and standing patterns, range of motion, and pain. This in-depth assessment will help to pinpoint any imbalances, weaknesses, or alignment issues that could be causing discomfort.
Biomechanics Treatment
After conducting the assessment and making a diagnosis, this allows me to understand where your discomfort is arising from, and craft custom-made insoles or orthotics to correct your foot position and tackle the issues.
Additional treatment options can include general footwear advice and exercises. In some cases, I may refer you to a GP for further advice and help.
